BEHIND THE WORK
TDDOD is a documentary discussing and questioning our comprehension of life and death. The film features staged fictional elements, where the characters can envelope themselves in their dream scenario of dying. What is their dream death?
So the movie has this constant back-an-forth between a shared reality between people and an elevated and individual metaphorical reality. We wanted the score to support and elevate these transitions. Additionally, we wanted the score to hint to the veil separating these two realities.
As a common thread throughout the score there were these delicate vocal snippets, waves of ethereal sounds and breathy woodwinds. The score also contains a lot of sound design elements - for example taking the sound of biting an apple, sampling it and playing small melodic motives with it. The director Smilla Dreinø Khonsari and I talked a lot about these everyday sounds that make us stop in our track - for example, noticing weird squeaky noises from your bike.
The three female main characters Bib, Eva og Gitte all got a different composition and sound based on their vision of life and death, and their personality and temperament.
The movie ends with a song by Viola Wendelboe Faber, which I arranged and wove together with the score. Faber's vocals also features throughout the score, alongside vocal performances of Anna Sophie Mæhl.
'Tør Du Drømme Om Døden?' was nominated for a Robert in the category "Årets kortfilm: Dokumentar" at Robert Prisen 2025
